At Learning Lab Retreats, our mission is to empower individuals approaching retirement to cultivate a lifestyle that promotes longevity, vitality, and purpose. We believe that a fulfilling retirement is built on a foundation of holistic wellness, where physical health, mental clarity, emotional balance, and a sense of purpose all thrive together. Our retreat is designed to help you embrace the joy of aging gracefully by nurturing your body, mind, and spirit, ensuring you are healthy enough to truly savor the golden years.
Our approach is grounded in the principles of ikigai—the Japanese concept of finding one's reason for being—by helping you discover or reconnect with the activities and passions that bring you joy and fulfillment. We focus on three key pillars of wellness:
Physical Wellness: Through personalized fitness programs, nutritious meals, and restorative practices, we aim to enhance your physical strength and resilience, ensuring you have the energy and vitality to enjoy life to its fullest.
Mental Wellness: We offer cognitive health programs, mindfulness practices, and opportunities for lifelong learning to keep your mind sharp and engaged.
Emotional Wellness: Our retreat provides a supportive environment for self-reflection, connection, and emotional healing, fostering inner peace and balanced well-being.
A true Southern farm girl, Sarah grew up with both incredible and questionable role models when it came to wellness. Always an athlete, fitness was a constant in her life, but her passion for helping people led her to healthcare at just 18. After an early graduation from high school and technical school, she worked in the medical field for nearly 12 years. However, after moving to Colorado, Sarah wanted to shift her focus to helping people before they got sick.
Her journey into fitness began with coaching CrossFit for law enforcement officers, but she soon missed competing herself. That drive led her to bodybuilding, where she quickly rose from novice to Ms. Colorado and eventually to earning her IFBB Pro card. Throughout her career, she has helped countless men and women unlock their full physical potential.
Now at 44, Sarah’s focus has evolved toward maintaining her athleticism and youthfulness. Married to her best friend from childhood—a first responder—she learned a shocking reality: most first responders have an average post-retirement lifespan of just five years. Determined to understand why and how to change that, she developed the Fit Enough to Retire concept. Knowing she needed a passionate educator to help bring this vision to life, she reached out to her peer, Joel Griffin—and the rest, as they say, is history.
Joel was born in Emporia, Kansas, in 1983 and spent his early years on a cattle ranch before relocating to Thornton, Colorado, in 1991 at the age of eight. While he attended school in Colorado, he returned to Kansas every summer to work on the ranch until he was 16.
His career in the health and fitness industry began early, working in a physical therapy clinic at just 14 years old, a role he maintained until the age of 22. Joel pursued his education at Thornton High School, Colorado State University, and Metropolitan State College.
Since 2010, he has resided in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, where he moved to be near Armbrust Pro Gym. He shares his home with his cat, Ricky Bobby, a solid black female known for her adventurous nighttime excursions.
With a deep passion for health, fitness, and performance, Joel is dedicated to helping others build stronger, healthier bodies. His extensive athletic background includes experience in track and field, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, snowboarding, motocross, football, basketball, soccer, archery, BMX, skateboarding, and more.
A seasoned competitor, Joel has participated in seven bodybuilding competitions and plans to continue, as he enjoys the challenge and goal-setting they provide.
At 41 years old, he stands 6’0”, maintains a weight of approximately 235 lbs, and sustains a year-round body fat percentage of 6–8%. Committed to continuous improvement, he remains passionate about training, performance, and personal development.
